A guitarist-songwriter with a mile of influences finds himself in the West Philly basement of a formidable piano force. At the intersection of a Craigslist ad and a Facebook post, the two recruit an electronic-music-producing Jazz drummer and a sound engineer/bassist. This four-piece is Actual Jackals. They combine decades of experience to employ dense harmony, intricate arrangements, thumping low end, and the vocabulary of many genres. The group delivers a dynamic, unique, genre-straddling sound that resonates with all crowds. Actual Jackals songs offer the energy of Rock, wry Indie-style lyricism, and provide plenty of sophisticated Jazz fusion and Funk calling cards. From searing, cosmic jams to moody, atmospheric ballads and groovy toe-tappers, Actual Jackals will catch and keep your attention. The band started playing together in 2018 but only adopted the ‘Actual Jackals’ identity on Halloween 2019. They have continued to play bars, clubs, and private events in the Philadelphia area ever since. When they’re not gigging or rehearsing, the lads can be found fishing, biking through the city, storyboarding animated web-series, playing accordion down by the Schuylkill, eating Greek food, hatching baby Praying Mantises (yes, really) or just making painfully niche TV and video game references. Actual Jackals is all about the joy of music. Their polished songs are guaranteed to make you stop and listen.
