5K to Support Ambler Food Co-op

Spring has sprung.

Flowers are in full bloom. Trees are green. And people are out and about. It is time to put away your overcoat and put on shorts and tees. For some that means lacing up those running shoes and getting ready to run!

For all you runners and walkers out there, registration is now open for the First Annual Creek and Co-op 5K! This event will benefit Ambler Food Co-op and the Prophecy Creek Park Preservation Fund. Hurry, space is limited!

Ambler Food Co-op is an effort by local residents from in and around Ambler to create and sustain a member owned, full service market that nourishes the community by offering locally-sourced food and products, bettering the physical, social and economic strength of the people in Ambler and the surrounding communities. The Co-op has just launched a membership pledge drive which will raise revenues and help make the Co-op a reality, but other funds are needed. This event will help raise some of that start-up capital.

The Prophecy Creek Park Preservation Fund helps preserve and maintain one of our most treasured outdoor spaces, Prophecy Creek Park, ensuring its availability for everyone.

There is already a growing list of local sponsors for this event, and on one has even tied a lace.

Gift certificates to local restaurants and running stores are among the prizes offered to top finishers. So far, gift certificates have been donated by PJ Whelihan’s and From the Boot in Ambler. Local running store Born to Run, with locations in Springhouse and Lafayette Hill, has also donated a gift certificate.

Though sponsors are already lining up and volunteers from Ambler Food Co-op are hard at work, more help is needed. On the day of the event there will be a need for course marshalls and people who can help with handing out water and fruit to runners. Leading up to the race, help is needed to get the word out by posting posters and postcards. There is something to do for everybody who attends…or you can just enjoy the vending tables and watch the race.

PARKING IN AMBLER

Because Ambler has the busiest train station on the R5 rail line, we use meters for regulating parking. When commuters park their cars all day in the downtown, they take spaces away from our shoppers and visitors. The meters will help free up convenient spaces for shoppers and other visitors. That's the why of meters, now here's how to take advantage of them:

AMPLE NUMBER OF SPACES
247 spaces in the three Borough lots
146 spaces on the street within one block of downtown.

THREE CONVENIENT LOTS
On Lindenwold at Butler Ave., Cavalier at Butler Ave., and Butler at the Train Tracks

BARGAIN RATES
SUNDAYS AND AFTER 6 PM ARE ALWAYS FREE.
WEEKDAYS ARE ALSO FREE FROM 12-2PM
One dollar buys you 1 hour of parking on all meters.  You can pay for up to 2 hours with either coins or the Flowbird APP on your smart phone.
